Krestine Harboe has, since she graduated at Aarhus Kunstakademi, been occupied with nordic mythology and nature as well as the climate change that we are all facing today.
The majority of her works are fully abstract of partly abstract with the touch of being organic. The methods she uses comes in a wide range, whereas one of them is to collect branches and organic material within nature, using these as the foundation for making sculptural art works.
Her craftmanship holds a strong intuition and is filled with challenges and opportunities to even collaps. However Krestine Harboe has evolved her techniques to the extend of being highly specialized within this field in Denmark.
Krestine Harboe has a veneration for making combinations between what brings delight and what brings repulsion. Her sculpturs and objects don't long for being decoded or understood from an unambigious angle. Very often she balances the art works between the realms of kitsch, cultural and natural - existing in between plant, human body and organ. She applies a sampling technique adding a layor of grotesque and disturbing impression. Not being afraid to use body parts from barbie dolls etc. as elements within a seemingly abstract sculpture or relief, adds power within her visual universe.
As of late, Krestine Harboe has been present with an solo exhibition called CHANGES, at Fanø Kunstmuseum, with an exhibition that touches upon climate scientists worrisome prophesy telling about a world of rising oceans coming to endanger the human population on Earth.
Krestine Harboe's intention is to create an experience which is aesthetically beautiful and spellbound whilst being oddly intangible and worrisome. As it touches upon living in an condition of almost imperceptible changes, a new world will rise and parts of the world we know will disappear.
