The Guardians
Immersive storytelling through ceramic works and AR.
The pilot project in itself will have a visible and participatory outcome involving the public. The project aims to explore how ceramic sculptures can be combined with AR, thereby creating new narratives in which the citizen/viewer actively participates.
Project description:
• The physical part of the project will center around an exhibition of ceramic works. There will be 4–8 pieces, provisionally titled “Guardians.” Each guardian has a specific characteristic.
• By scanning a QR code, users will receive a digital “avatar” of the guardians on their phone. Through their device’s camera, they can place the guardians in spaces and landscapes as they wish. They can also experiment with scale, creating both small and large guardians. The experience thus invites play and participation.
• At the same time, the experience encourages reflection: What are the guardians protecting—and why? Where would you like to see transformation and change, and where would you preserve what already exists? This dialogue can provide valuable insight into others’ perspectives while also fostering existential reflection within the individual.
• Photos of the guardians and their placements—preferably accompanied by reflections—can be uploaded to a shared platform.
In a broader perspective, the project could generate valuable empirical data and insights into how citizens experience their local environment. In the long term, educational programs connected to the project could also be developed.
The project is distinctive in its exploration of the interface between analog ceramic sculptures and their digital avatars, while focusing on the narratives that emerge within this interplay. In Viborg, there must be room for both the broadly accessible and the innovative.
