About the Building
Kristian Vodder Svensson in front of Peak 12
Peak 12 is a striking and modern building centrally located in Viborg, housing a hotel, private residences, and commercial spaces. The mural is located on the building’s east-facing façade, made of smooth concrete and visible from much of the city. The artwork contributes to creating identity and vitality in the urban space that connects Viborg’s historic center with newer districts.
A Historic Meeting Place
The mural draws on Viborg’s strong identity as a historic gathering place. From ancient times to the present day, the area around Peak 12—formerly known as Biskoptoften—has been a focal point for trade, religion, military, culture, and royal celebrations.
Here, people have gathered for the Toft Market to trade horses and cattle, to witness royal ceremonies, and later to participate in activities on the parade grounds, at the barracks, agricultural fairs, and the stadium. Today, the area still serves as a cultural and urban meeting point—and now also as a canvas for the city's visual narrative.
Artistic Vision
The gable must first be primed
The mural, with the working title “Visualization of Viborg’s Historical Family Tree”, unfolds as a visual narrative about the city’s deep roots and richly branched history. Viborg is portrayed as the heart of Jutland—a place where life and stories have intersected through time. The inspiration stems from the city’s unique cultural heritage, its central location, and Viborg’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City within Media Arts.
Key Themes Behind the Work

A steering group and working group were formed during the development of the artwork, and through workshops, they identified core themes. The theme of “meeting place” received the most points and recurs in several proposals—fully in line with the area’s historical and contemporary role.

“The gable of Peak 12 is more than concrete – it is a large-scale narrative of Viborg’s identity, past, and future.”
